When You Have A Loved One Fighting Addiction

This is a hard one for me to write, because someone I love is in a battle with addiction.  Sadly they just don’t see it that way.  I have wrestled with whether to even post this or not.

Addiction is a horrible thing.  It effects everyone around the person who struggles with it.  It damages relationships.  Sadly addiction can also be a killer.  Of course the person affected never see’s the problem with their actions.  Many times even if they do, they don’t care.  Satan has dug that deep into that person that they believe that this is what they need.  That this thing is the only way they can cope.

We as bystanders can try to plead with them.  We can try to show them what the addiction is doing.  We can try to get them help anyway we can by involving a Pastor, counselor, rehab whatever it takes.  However we also need to involve God and we need to pray.

Pray for God to step in and lead them from this addiction whatever the vice may be.

Pray for their eyes to be open so that they may see the loved ones around them.

Pray for them to have peace.

Pray for them to have strength to push forward and leave the addiction behind them.

Pray for the damage to their relationships to be mended.

Pray for them to submit themselves to God and be healed and seek his guidance.

And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.  Psalm 50:15 ESV

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  James 4:7 ESV

It hurts to see someone that we love destroy themselves.   There are many things that we can do to get help.  Al-anon meetings, seeking out church leaders, counseling.  This way we are better equipped in helping our loved one.  Because lets face it we can’t do this alone.

You said if we seek you out can call upon you in trouble that you will deliver us.  Father our loved one needs you.  Our enemy has a hold of our them.  They need to be delivered from this addiction.  Father we ask that you bring healing to them and their relationships.  Father we ask for you to be our strength in this battle.  Your mercy is abundant, your are a chain breaker.  Satan we rebuke your efforts in taking over our loved ones life with addiction, you are not welcome here.  Lord, break these chains of addiction and release our loved one to your loving arms.  Allow them to feel the loving arms of the Holy Spirit.  For they are a child of God.

Father we thank you and we praise your holy name.
